Worklog

As an apprentice carpenter, you might expect our next subject to be a dab-hand when it come to woodwork - and you wouldn't be wrong. Hailing from Denmark, which is at least next to the country that brought us Ikea, the 18 year old in question clearly has some leet skills when it comes to setting about nature's finest with man's finest bits of metal. Amazingly, this is Mr. Hugi's first mod, so props to him for getting it right first time. The mod is actually from last year, but the log has only just been updated with finished pictures!

Starting out with some wooden boards, the first task was to chisel the edges into shape, so that they could be slotted together into a strong, square join. Apparently, the technical name for this is a dovetail join!

It's a tight fit, but the boy has measured carefully!

There's plenty of detailing to be done. The front has circular cut-outs made so that Hugi can mount a Cooler Master Musketeer in the case, for temperature and voltage readouts. The top section needs ventilation, so a couple of rounded holes and some saw work down the middle makes for an awesome-looking fan grill.

What was it we were saying about window mods? Hugi has been able to do the window perfectly - the mounting is offset by the routed ledge underneath, making a flush fit.

Having the right tools for the job is half the battle, and this guy has got more clamps than a bondage fetishist. Holding the joins together is critical, since the structural integrity of the whole case depends on them. To see the mounting of all the components (and, of course, the finished mod) you can go and check out the full worklog. The craftsmanship is well worth it.
